General Dentistry for Livonia Families
From pediatric treatments to preventative, restorative, and cosmetic dental procedures, Livonia Dentistry provides general dentistry for Livonia families. It’s important to visit your dentist at least once every six months for a regular checkup, which typically includes a thorough oral exam, digital x-rays and a professional cleaning to remove built-up plaque and tartar, to ensure that your teeth and gums are healthy. During your checkups, we check for signs of cavities and other common dental problems, including tooth decay, halitosis, gum disease, infections, inflammations, and broken or damaged teeth.
Because oral cancer may be successfully treated if detected early enough, we also provide oral cancer screenings for every patient. If we detect any of the aforementioned dental issues, we’ll recommend appropriate treatment(s) to restore your oral health. In-between visits, we encourage you to practice good oral hygiene at home. This includes daily brushing and flossing, using mouthwash to help control plaque and bacteria and eating a well-balanced diet that’s not too reliant on sugary foods or drinks that cause cavities. Be aware that some patients may require more annual visits to the dentist than others.

What to Expect During a Regular Checkup
Regular checkups at Livonia Dentistry P.C. typically last an hour but will vary from patient to patient. You should expect your first appointment to take approximately two hours, as we will need more time to properly review your medical and dental history, take necessary digital x-rays, clean your teeth, provide complete periodontal charting, record any existing restorations and screen you for oral cancer. It may also be necessary for us to take intraoral photographs for cosmetic evaluations. Depending on our findings, we may schedule a follow-up consultation with you to go over a proposed treatment plan. If we don’t detect any serious issues, we’ll go ahead and schedule your next regular checkup appointment.
